Information

Anyone who has read the New Testament may have wondered about all of the cities mentioned and what they are called today. Paul wrote one evangelical letter to the Ephesians, declaring that the Christ has come, establishing the church, and helping it to grow. Ephesus was a city-state on the coast of Ancient Greece, near the Aegean Sea. Ephesus is located in modern day Turkey. It is the location of one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Temple of Artemis.

The Apostle Paul made multiple trips to Ephesus during his ministry and lived there for some time as he established the Church at Ephesus in the 50s and wrote the 1st Letter to the Corinthians from Ephesus. Paul's letter to the Ephesians was written while he was imprisoned in Rome. The church at Ephesus thrived for hundreds of years. Ephesus was also the location of the Third Ecumenical Council, a council of Christian bishops seeking to determine the doctrine and direction of the Christian faith in 431.
